Booklet relating to Fountaindale School, a school for pupils with Special Educational Needs situated in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. The school opened in 1957 and was completely rebuilt in 2014. The booklet was produced as part of the "Old School" project, in which pupils interviewed current and former staff and pupils about life at the school before this major change. The project was delivered by Junction Arts and funded by Nottinghamshire County Council.

"Combine: Farming Heritage East Midlands"

A pilot project for "Combine" was undertaken with pupils from Shirebrook Academy in 2010, during a series of visits to Hill Top Farm in Ashover to learn about traditional skills and explore contemporary rural life. The full project, two years later, was far more ambitious, working across six counties in the East Midlands: Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. D7913/3/3/1995/2: Pleasley VE Day Fireshow: 9 images of the construction of a fire sculpture showing a dove bearing an olive branch, produced to commemorate the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe. Fire sculptures appear to be made by creating an outline shape using a flammable material attached to a non-flammable metal frame. The sculpture may then be lit for the design to be visible to large gatherings of people at night.

Junction 28 creative writing publication file: "Norman's book" - memoirs of Norman Ludlam

This file comprises 142 photocopied pages of manuscript autobiography. Norman's surname is not given in the text, but it mentions that he was born in 1917 in Derby, a twin; the only matching entries on the General Register Office index to births are in the name of Ludlam. Norman Ludlam is also recorded as one of the contributors to "A Derbyshire Town Remembered", the Postmill Press anthology devoted to South Normanton (D7913/6/3/4/2). Mr Ludlam's family moved to South Normanton in 1919, where he was still resident at the time of writing.

Junction Arts youth work and schools file: Asian Dance project, with dancers Vina Ladwa and Bisarkar Sarker

In this project, children and teachers at Bolsover Secondary School learnt elements of dance which were choreographed into a fifteen-minute performance, included in the Bolsover Lantern Festival in November 2000. The performance was repeated at Nottingham Hindu Temple as part of the Diwali Gala in November 2001.

Living Literacy was a major programme developed by Junction Arts, with funding arranged through Bolsover Local Strategic Partnership. The programme worked on numerous literacy projects in schools across the Bolsover District, initially with children in Key Stage 2 (aged 7 to 11) and then also Key Stage 3 (ages 11 to 14). "Tibshelf Apollo" was the name of a Junction Arts project which took place in 1999, involving artist Jonathan Stephenson and Tibshelf Town End School. The pupils produced artwork on astronomical themes, creating end products intended for continuing use as teaching aids in the school. An exhibition of the pupils' paintings was also displayed at Bolsover Castle during October. The artist residency was devised by Junction Arts in partnership with English Heritage.

This was a video project organised as part of the Derbyshire Children's Festival, 2004. The festival's theme was "hills, holes and homes", and the aim of the video project was to express the creative responses of the schools in the Creswell Cluster to that theme. This project was part of the People And Places programme of Junction Arts. A housing renovation component of the project provided one year's paid employment to 6 unemployed 18-24 year olds, who also received training towards a qualification. Junction Arts commissioned a ten-week programme of sessions for what would become known as the EnvriOarts Youth Arts Group, with artists including Anna Dixon. In 1998, Junction Arts were asked by Bolsover District Council to create permanent public works of art for the shopping mall. Artist Anna Dixon was commissioned to work in South Normanton and Pinxton schools and with local residents to devise eight themes which could be incorporated into mosaic panels. The schools involved were Frederick Gent Secondary, Green Infants, Brigg Infants, Glebe Junior (all South Normanton) and John King Infants, Kirkstead Junior and Longwood Infants (all Pinxton). Public/environmental art project file: Gateway to Bolsover

This project was commissioned by Groundwork Creswell and Junction Arts with funding from Bolsover District Council. The commission called for a professional environmental sculptor to create a "distinctive entrance statement into the town", which would also act as a screen to Bolsover Business Park, Carr Vale. The artist eventually chosen was Liz Lemon, who created a 5.5 metre-high stainless steel gate, installed on 25 May 2001.

Junction Arts created "Can-Do" clubs in two different schools:

1. A club aiming to improve literacy levels among children and parents at Park Infants School, Shirebrook. It met for a two-hour session every week. The club appears to have been re-named Word Magic!

This project employed visual artist Julie Turner, working with year 6 classes (children aged 10-12) to respond to concerns voiced by pupils in sessions with a counsellor from the One to One counselling service in Bolsover. The schools were all primary schools attended by pupils who would expect to move on to Bolsover School for their secondary education: Palterton Primary School, Bolsover Church of England Junior School, New Bolsover Primary School, Brockley Primary School.
