The Wilmot, Gilbert and Berrysford Charity, Chaddesden

The Berrysford Charity was set up by the will dated 1813 of John Berrysford to help the poor widows and children of Chaddesden. The Gilbert Charity was founded by Indenture by Henry Gilbert dated 7 Dec 1680 pursuant to the will of Thomas Gilbert dated 15 Dec 1657, with the aim of providing charity to the poor of Chaddesden. The Wilmot Almshouses Charity was set up by the will of Robert Wilmot dated 1638, providing for their occupants (4 men and 2 women) to receive money out of lands in Chaddesden.

Derby and Derbyshire Children's Seaside Home, Skegness, Lincolnshire

In 1891 a Mr H B Sykes, a local Derby businessman, began taking groups of boys on summer camping holidays to Skegness. Several other businessmen assisted Mr Sykes and c1900 a committee of trustees was formed to administer the holidays. A permanent site was acquired and a home built at 1 Scarborough Avenue, funded by donations from the citizens of Derby. In later years holidays were also provided for girls and other children in Derbyshire. The home is now closed. The following records were given by the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales Area Education Office in January 1996.

Sir John Port's Charity was established by the will of Sir John in 1556. Lands in Etwall, Willington, Repton, Egginton, Normanton and elsewhere were left to fund a hospital, or almshouses, at Etwall and a grammar school at Repton or Etwall.
