The friendly society which met at the White Lion Inn in Ashover was established in the late eighteenth century. It was affiliated to the Nottingham Ancient Imperial United Order of Oddfellows which was established in 1812 as lodge number 771. The Club commenced sometime in 1922, following the lock-out of 1921 and its main function was to help provide a decent burial for its members and to "divide" the surplus at the end of each year.
