1 - Letter - Thomas Gell in London to his brother John Gell at Kedleston - thanks him for the bill of exchange for £5 - John left the writer £5 when John left London - allows John to remind him of his promise to let Thomas have £15 quarterly - Mr Peapes the attorney is gone into the country - spoke to his chamber fellow and searched his study but found nothing about the commission - it was ill done to trust an attorney with it - the writer cannot come into the country this summer without great hindrance 24 Jul - 1619
2 - Letter - Percival Willughby at Oxford to his sister Elizabeth Gell at Hopton - thanks her for the cock and hen she sent - glad to hear that she has been safely delivered but would have been gladder had it been a boy who could have taken up medicine - maybe he can persuade her second son to follow up that career - has sent a small token in sign of his love - the writer is a servant but it grieveth him nothing for he has a good master and mistress 19 Apr - 1621
3 - Letter - Nicholas Lowe at Derby to his cousin John Gell at Hopton - Mr Allen says that if Gell is content to let the barn pass to him and all the tithes including the tithes of the Four Acres, he will be willing to proceed with Gell and accept his warranty - the others for Womhill are likewise content with the same assurance and warranty and have their money here ready 2 Oct - 1620
4 - Letter - Thomas Gresley to his cousin Thomas Gell at the Inner Temple - is much beholden to Gell for procuring him the £100 last term - wishes Gell to take it in to be Gell's own debt and will make what security Gell wishes when Gell comes into the country 31 Jan 1627/8 - 1628

6 - Letter - Sir John Gell to his son John Gell at Hopton - did not send the goshawk to have been Gell's own trouble but for someone else to carry her and him to have given her a partridge to see if she could make wing after one - if she can, she will be a very good hawk - it is well the pippins and oranges came to Gell's hand without bruising - the Malagogon is for melancholy and the diaforatita for sweating - Gell may let his wife begin with Salve Bunting, with 20 grains of pille Rewdie, 15 grains of pille Letothie and 2 grains of Allhandall - then give of the spleen pill every fourth or first day, so much as will occation three loose stooles - 3 Feb 1663
7 - Letter - Richard Lloyd at Drury Lane to Thomas Gell at the Inner Temple - necessity is said to be the whetstone of wit and gives an edge to invention - has thought of several good businesses to acquaint Gell with - especially desires to enquire whether Mr Leake has made his commission - he bought land off a kinsman of writer and has dealt very basely with his kinsman and forced him to Oxford where he died - a great part of the purchase money remains unpaid 7 Mar 1646/7 - 1647

12 - Letter - Thomas Bagshaw at Bakewell to Sir Philip Gell - has been greatly indisposed ever since Mr Blackwall was there, which is the reason has not sent the draft of the reconveyance sooner - now sends it for Mr Curzon's perusal though thinks a short release to Gell in possession would have answered - when the draft is returned, it will be engrossed - will send the other draft with all speed - heartily wishes Gell a merry Christmas 22 Dec - 1718

14 - Letter - John Archer to Temperance Gell at Hopton - was grievous to writer to part so soon with TG yet lives in hopes of seeing TG in town this winter - is greatly disappointed at the account of Sir Philip's indisposition which is likely to prevent his Western Circuit - should think himself greatly honoured by his company at Welford - hopes TG may stay longer on his next Bath journey 26 Aug - 1703
15 - Letter - Jessop to Mrs Gell at her lodgings at Mrs Casens - received the enclosed by the post - the double sealing caused WJ to think that it was not for him and made him look at the superscription - hopes they will leave Mrs Gell the possession of this house in a week at the most 23 Jul - 1707
