1 - Grant Thomas Fawne to Henry Grey, Lord Grey, William Blount, William Troutebek, Ralf Pole, Ralf Saucheverell, Richard Curson, Philip Leche and John Mills, chaplain. All of Fawne's lands, tenements, rents and services in Alderwasley and elsewhere in Derbyshire. Witnesses: John Curzon, William Leech, Henry Pole, Thomas Newton, William Waynfield and others. 2 - [Four deeds stitched together:] I Grant Henry Graye, Lord Grey, William Troutebek, Ralf Sawcheverell, Richard Curson, Ralf Pole and Philip Leche to Thomas Handford, son of Handford of Chorley, deceased and to Joan, daughter of Thomas Fawne. 3 - Agreement Thomas Fawne and Joan Fawne Joan "in her clene virginite and beying of age xxiii yeres" undertakes to pay 10 marks to Thomas or to either of her sisters after they are married, at a time to be appointed by Ralf Saucheverell, Thomas Fawne, James Rolston and Edmund Levet. If either marrywithout the consent of the above the whole grant to go to the other sister. If both marry without their consent the grant to be void, provided that either sister, before she is married or when she is over 21, shall release to Joan all her right and claim to all lands that were formerly John and Thomas Fawne's. 6 - Declaration Thomas Fawne of Allerwaslegh [Alderwasley] "byng in goddes handdes and felyng my self in perell of dethe and beyng whole in my mynde doe and take on my charge as I wille answer a fore god" that a gift and grant made by him to Thomas Lowe and Joan, his eldest daughter of all his land at Allerwaslegh, Assheleyhey and elsewhere in Derbyshire was good and valid, that he never knew of any entail upon the property, neither on heirs male nor general but that he might, at the marriage of Thomas and Joan, give or sell it to whom he liked, save monks or Jews, and that he had never made any entail upon the same save that made at the said marriage. 7 - Release and quitclaim Thomas Fawne, son and heir of John Fawn, to Joan Fawne. All his claim to lands at Allerwasslegh [Alderwasley] Asshelehay [Ashleyhay], Alsetter (Alcester, Warks,) Ordesley (Warwickshire) and elsewhere in Derby and Warwickshire, which had been granted to her and to Thomas Hondford, son of William Hondford of Chorley, deceased by Henry Graye, Lord Graye, William Trowtbeke, Ralf Saucheverell, Richard Curson, Ralf Pole and Philip Leche, and of which she is in full possession since Thomas Hondford died before the marriage between them could be effected 11 Dec Edward IV Latin - 1471
8 - Declaration by Ralf Saucheverell that, whereas Walter Wynter, Margery his wife and Elyn her sister claim to have as good a claim to such lands as were formerly of Thomas Fawne their father, as do Thomas Lowe and Joan his wife, eldest daughter of Thomas Fawne, since the lands were entailed on heirs general, and whereas a meeting was arranged between the parties at Nottingham on 5 April 21 Edward IV (1481) at which Walter, Margery and Elyn desired him to be present and they also brought Thomas Poutrell as their counsel and Thomas and Joan brought Laurence Lowe as their counsel, it was agreed by Thomas Poutrell and himself that Thomas and Joan had good right to the land as appeared by deed, and that Walter, Margery and Elyn had no right therein. Walter, Margery and Elyn offered to release and quitclaim all their title so that Margery and Elyn might have 10 marks each according to an agreement between Thomas Fawne and Joan his daughter, but Thomas Lowe showed a release by Thomas Fawne to him of all accounts and claimed that Margery had not released her title to Joan before her marriage. Walter offered £20 for one third of the lands but was refused by Thomas. Ralf appends his seal but, since it is not known to many men, he also arranges for John, Abbot of Dale to affix his seal 8 Apr, 21 Edward IV English - 1481
9 - Grant Anthony Lowe of Alderwasley to Arthur Lowe, clerk. That for a term of 60 years he shall deliver to Arthur within the manor of Alderwasley, Asshelehay and Mylnehay, 400 loads of wood yearly for the burning of "bolles of laid" [lead] the proceeds to be paid to Brigide, wife of Anthony and daughter of John Fogge, deceased, so that she may have money and goods to distribute as she wishes - 11 May [1536]
