Robert Soore of Aston yeoman and Dorothy his wife, for good causes and reasonable considerations, of 2 p'lors [? parlours], one croft enclosed containing one ley, lying between messuage in the occupation of Robert Cowper of Aston and messuage in the occupation of Robert Mee, 3 roods of arable in fields of Aston, gate and pasturing for one cow or beast yearly in common pastures of Aston either up or down whether shall be agreed upon by the inhabitants of the town of Aston, hovel standing in fold yard of messuage for the necessary use of the Soore's to set their kine under and to make their swine sty and to lay their `meynor' [?manure] on the backside of the said hovel, all of which are parcel of the messuage of John Rolleston and now in the tenure of Soore and Christopher son of Robert Soore, with access for Dorothy and Robert Soore for themselves and their cattle to the foldyard and to fetch water at the well there and for their necessary use, at 1d rent. 8 - Bond in 20 marks by Robert Soore of Aston yeoman and Christopher Eyre of Aston yeoman to John Rolleston of Great Wilne yeoman senior for the livery of seisin of a messuage in Aston, in which Robert Soore and Christopher his son live, to Rolleston at Michaelmas 1597, excepting one lease dated 8 August 37 Elizabeth I [1595] granted by Rolleston to Robert Soore and Dorothy his wife for their lives, recited (see above). - 10 Aug [1595]

Christopher Rolston son of John Rolston of Wilne husbandman reciting that Henry Sacheverell of Morley esquire and Jane his wife, by indenture dated 12 April 36 Elizabeth I [1594] made between (1) Gabriell Armestronge of Thorpe, county Nottingham, esquire John Tagge of Smalley yeoman and Thomas Gell esquire now deceased and (2) Henry and Jane, covenanted with Armestronge, Tagge and Gell to levy a fine to Henry and Jane of all the lands of Henry Sacheverell in Aston upon Trent inter alia to the use of (2) for 80 years, and in the Easter term after, Henry and Jane levied the fine by the name of the manor of Saddington, 20 messuages, 20 cottages, 1 watermill, 1 windmill, 2 dovehouses, 20 gardens, 20 orchards, 500 acres land, 200 acres meadow, 300 acres pasture, 10 acres wood, £5 rent in Saddington, `Movesley' [Mowsley], Wigston, Westerby, Lawwyghton alias Lawton, and Gumley, county Leicester, and the manors of Morley, Hopwell, Snitterton, Callow and Boulton, and 180 messuages, 100 cottages, 2 watermills, 6 dovehouses, 200 gardens, 200 orchards, 3,000 acres land, 1,000 acres meadow, 2,000 acres pasture, 800 acres wood, 3,000 acres `firre' and heath, £20 rent in Morley, Hopwell, Snitterton, Callow, Boulton, Smalley, Kidsley,Kilburn, Aston upon Trent, Chaddesden, Risley, Alsop in le dale and Quarndon alias Quarne, county Derby, and that by their indenture dated 27 January 37 Elizabeth I [1595] Armestronge and Tagge assigned their title in the premises to William North and witnessing that North assigned his term in messuage and yardland in Aston late in the tenure of Robert Sore, heretofore bargained and sold to John Rolston, father of Christopher, by Henry Sacheverell - 30 Apr [1596]
14 - Feoffment by 1. John Rolleston the elder of Wilne, Aston, yeoman to 2. John his son yeoman, in consideration of 1.'s affection for his son and the latter's advancement in marriage, of a messuage in Aston which 1. latterly bought from Henry Sachev'ell in the tenure of Robert Soore, and yardland, buildings, meadows etc belonging to the messuage, in the town fields, parish of Aston (mentioning 1.'s wife Ellen). 15-16 - Grant and agreement (both parts) made between 1. John Hurt of Ambaston husbandman and 2. John Rolleston son of John of Wilne, Aston, yeoman, by which Hurt, in consideration of the future marriage of Rolleston and Margaret Smetheley of Ambaston near kinswoman of Margaret, John Hurt's wife, and to advance her marriage, granted to Rolleston, all his goods, cattells and chattels moveable and unmoveable which he has or may have and all profits arising out of the messuage, lands etc. which he holds for life in Ambaston (see below), excepting money, coin, and 10 hives of bees at his house in Ambaston, and Hurt gave Rolleston a silver sixpence to put him and Margaret into possession and seisin, and in consideration of this, it was agreed that all Rolleston's goods and land he then had or would have in the future, including those granted to him by Hurt in this deed, but excepting £20 to be given to Rolleston by his father, should be occupied and used jointly by Rolleston, Margaret Smetheley, John and Margaret Hurt, for their maintenance and housekeeping after the marriage, for the lives of John and Margaret Hurt. 18-19 - Marriage settlement by feoffment to uses (both parts) by John Rolleston son of John of Wilne yeoman to Robert Wright of Spondon yeoman and Christopher Rolleston of Wilne yeoman, in consideration of marriage between John Rolleston and Margaret Smetheley and in respect of Margaret's jointure, of a messuage and yardland as in D 779B/T 608, to hold for the life of John Rolleston the son, then to the use of Margaret whilst she remains unmarried, but if she remarries then half only to her use for life, after her death or remarriage to the use of John and Margaret's issue, remainder to John's right heirs. John Roulston of Aston yeoman, for £14, of the lowest part of the cow pasture called dry holmes, parcel of the demesnes of the manor of Stanton, lying between a common pasture called the dryeholmes and a parcel of meadow called the nyne leyes, at 1d. rent. 21 - Lease for 2 years from 24 April 1613, by 1. Richard Franncis and son and heir apparent Henry to 2. John Rolston, for £8 6s 8d, of premises as in [1610] lease above, at rent of 1d. Endorsed that Richard and Henry Franncis will allow Rolston to take 2 wain or cart loads of 'Tynsell' within one mile of the premises in each year of the term. Dated 28 February 9 James - [1612]
22 - Letters of administration of goods etc. of John Roleson ? senior of Aston, who died intestate, granted to his son Christopher, his relict Margaret having renounced administration (Diocese of Coventry and Lichfield). Dated 18 November - 1630
23 - Post-nuptial settlement by feoffment to uses by 1. Christopher Rolleston of Aston yeoman to 2. William Knyveton of Steynson, Barrow-upon-Trent, yeoman and William Kilburne of Castle Donington, county Leicester, yeoman, in consideration of a marriage already solemnised between Rolleston and Katherine, one of the daughters of Francis Kilburne of Burnaston, Etwall, yeoman, and of £80 paid to Rolleston for Katherine's marriage portion, of a messuage or tenement in Aston in which Rolleston lives with yard land, all other lands of him in Aston, to be held, as to half the premises to the use of Christopher and Katherine for their lives, then to the heirs of their bodies, remainder to Christopher's right heirs, and as to the other half of the premises, to the use of Christopher for life, then to Katherine until eldest male or female heir is 21, for the children's upbringing, or until Katherine remarries, with successive remainders to the heirs of their bodies, Katherine for life or until she remarries, and Christopher's right heirs. 24 - Lease for 15 years from last Lady Day [25 March] by 1. Thomas Boothby of Touley Park, county Leicester. Esquire to 2. Christopher Rolleston of Aston yeoman, for £54, of 6 yardland of arable in several fields of Worthington, Breedon and Newbold, county Leicester, with all balks, heads and meadows. Rent £54. Endorsed that 2. may have corn, grain and meadow that is growing on the premises in 1661. Dated 1 October 22 Charles - [1646]
25 - Bargain and sale and feoffment (not completed or executed) by 1. Christopher Roulston of Aston yeoman to 2. John Roulston of Aston yeoman son of Christopher, for the natural affection Christopher bears to John and for the better preferment and maintenance of John and the advancement of his marriage, of messuage in Aston and yard land, buildings, meadows, leasowes, pastures, belonging to the messuage. 26 - Release by the Archdeacon of Derby of John Rolston of Aston and Ellena (formerly Ellena Bancroft of Aston) from sentence of excommunication, reciting that they had married clandestinely and illicitly without having obtained a licence or having banns called. Dated Derby, 26 June Inside: ? draft letter to Mr ? Major, mainly concerning the purchase of a gelding and an intended visit to Southwell, undated [17th c] - 1666[?]
27 - Letters of administration of the goods etc. of John Roulston of Aston, who died intestate, granted to Ellen, relict of John. (Diocese of Coventry and Lichfield). Dated Derby, 22 September - 1670
28 - Terrier (called a 'terrall') of all lands, meadow, and pastures and sheep pastures of Christopher Roulston, lying in Aston - 2 Jan [1706]
29 - Agreement made between Elizabeth Roulson widow and Christopher Roulson of Aston, that Christopher has agreed to go out of the house he now dwells in to another little house belonging to Elizabeth at Midsummer next, paying his rent to the tenant who rents the rest of Elizabeth's land, and in consideration of this, Elizabeth acknowledges Christopher to have a right to all the corn and pease now growing upon this said land belonging to her with the dung, but as for the `follows', meadows, `lays' and hades of grass, Christopher acknowledges [them] to be in hands of Elizabeth from this date, and acknowledges himself to be indebted to Elizabeth for £6 15s which he promises to pay in 6 weeks' time.
