1 - John Barker / Matthew Gibbons pocket book - 1698-1765
1 - Pocket book (green covers) containing:-(I) accounts of John Barker, carpenter, joiner and architect, for work done at Chatsworth, Haddon and Hassop Halls, 1698-1708 - in shorthand. (ii) diary of Matthew Gibbons of Rowsley,1761-1762. (iii) assorted memoranda, accounts, register entries, practice signatures/handwriting, poems, etc of Matthew Gibbons and his father, c1757-1765 The accounts of Barker have been written over by Gibbons on occasions. See D4362/2/1 for a transcript of the diary and other information, and D4362/3/1 for notes about the shorthand and attempts to decipher it, which is believed to have been based on the 2nd system devised by Shelton, Zeiglographia.
