393 - Marriage settlement, in consideration of a marriage already had between Thomas Markham and Christian his wife, by which John Markham father of Thomas of Great Oxenden has enfeoffed to Marie Ward of Dingley widow and Joseph Worceter of Rugby, yeoman, in consideration of £140, a messuage or tenement and two closes now or late in the tenure of John Markham in Great Oxenden, with buildings and lands belonging: the part of the house to the east of the entrie and a moiety of the entrie and of closes called Orchard, Rickyard, Wellyard and Hiveyard and the barns and outbuildings on the north side, close adjoining Hall Dame Lane, two natural rood lands in the Southfield on a furlong called West Hill, ½ rood land upon Blackpitt, and other field land (12a in all), and common of pasture for four beasts and 40 sheep within the fields of Great Oxenden, to the use of John Markham for life, then to the use of Christian wife of Thomas for her jointure, then to the use of Thomas Markham and his heirs, in default of issue to the use of Joseph Markham and his male heirs, in default of issue to the use of John Markham his heirs and assigns: the other moiety of the house and all other the lands etc of John Markham in Great Oxenden to the use of Joseph Markham, Bridget Markham and Lettice Markham their executors, administrators and assigns for 60 years, then to the use of Thomas Markham and his lawful male issue, in default to the use of Joseph Markham and his male issue, in default to the use of John his heirs and assigns: but if Thomas Markham shall pay to Joseph Markham £40 within 6 months of reaching the age of 21, and £30 to Bridget Markham within 6 months of her marriage or reaching the age of 21 and £30 to Lettice Markham within 6 months of her marriage or reaching age of 21, then the term of 60 years shall be void.
