89 - Surrender by Mary Bromfield, widow, relict of Charles Bromfield late of Barton-under-Needwood and Charles Bromfield, esq, son and heir of Charles Bromfield, to Lovett Goreing of Inner Temple, London, esq, and Issac Hawkins of Burton-on-Trent, Staffs, gent (trustees), reciting that Mary Bromfield is seised for life in the manor of Barton-under-Needwood, of the manor of Barton-under-Needwood etc as recited in D3155/WH 87-88, provided always if Charles Bromfield shall default in payment of the sum of £5,000 at on upon 20 March next, then null and void. 92-92a - Lease for possession and marriage settlement between Sir Charles Bromfield of Barton-under-Needwood, bart, and Dame Theodosia his wife, and Samuel Steele of Oreton-on-the-Hill, Leics, and John Steele of Oreton, by which, in consideration of a marriage already had between Sir Charles and Lady Theodosia and £700, the fortune of the said Theodosia, Bromfield has released to the Steeles, all that capital messuage or mansion house in Barton-under-Needwood where Sir Charles Bromfield lives with croft or backside adjoining, and two messuages, farms or tenements in Barton called the Parke and Bradbury's Liveing, in the holdings of Thomas Hollier and Isaac Fox with all lands etc belonging, and closes called the Carr, in the occupation of Arthur Tooby, the Spires, Lincroft Close, Ware Piece (enclosed from Barton Catholme) in the occupation of Sir Charles Bromfield: to the use of Sir Charles Bromfield for life, after his decease to the use of Dame Theodosia for life for her jointure and dower, then to the heirs of their bodies and in default to the use of the heirs and assigns of Sir Charles Bromfield. 94 - Lease for possession by Theodosia Jevon some time of Sedgley, Staffs, now of Croxall, spinster, to John Hayes of Wolverhampton, gent, and Thomas Fisher of Repton, gent, of a moiety of a capital messuage in Sedgley commonly called the Hall, moiety of all outhouses etc, moiety of closes called Inkeshic Meadow, Wainwright Hill, Hilly Meadow, Parkers Croft, the Two Barn Crofts, in the possession of Edward Gibbons, also a moiety of a messuage, tenement or farmhouse in Sedgley not far from the capital messuage and moiety of closes called Sandy Lane Piece, Sanders Hill Piece, the Walk Piece, Red Lane Piece, the Dead Knave Field, Rick Pieces, the Moving Bath, the Lower Barn Croft, the Dead Knave Piece wherein the messuage is erected, Ox Leasow, Holler Croft, Dayzy Leasow, Pide Croft and Little Meadow; also a moiety of another messuage, tenement or farmhouse in Sedgley with 2a of land called Beacon Piece lately inclosed out of Sedgley Field, 1a of land in the same field, 2a of land taken out of Hardwick Field called Watering Brook Piece, 1a of land in the same field, 1a of land in an enclosure called Rye Meadow adj Hardwick Field, 1a of land leading down to Rye Meadow, an enclosure called Wainwrights Croft, piece of enclosed land called Cotterline, ½a of land lying in enclosure taken out of Sandwell Field, 1a of land in the same field; also moiety of dwellinghouse or tenement with all lands etc in Rowley Regis, namely Stephenhis Meadow; also moiety of an ancient toft or tenement called Ellwells with closes called Upper Hall Leasow, Funny Ruchy Leasow, the Moving Leasow (all in Sedgley); also moiety of Ox Ellwalls (Sedgley) and a moiety of a messuage or tenement in Netherton, ph Dudley, Worcs. 95 - Marriage settlement on the marriage of Edward Busby to Theodosia Jevon, between Edward Busby of the city of London and Barton-under-Needwood, Mary Busby of Barton, widow, Mary, Elizabeth, Margaret and Martha Busby, legatees of the will of Sir Charles Bromfield, mother and sisters of Edward Busby, Theodosia Jevon of Croxall, spinster, of the daughters and co-heirs of Thomas Jevon late of Sedgley, gent, John Hayes of Wolverhampton, gent, and Thomas Fisher of Repton, gent, Christopher Horton of Catton, esq, and John Hayes the younger, of the Inner Temple, by which, in consideration of the marriage and settling a moiety of certain messuages lands and tenements in Sedgley and Rowley, Staffs, upon said Theodosia (see D3155/WH 94) as her jointure, Busby has released to Hayes and Fisher the Manor of Barton-under-Needwood with court leet, court baron, all that messuage, dwellinghouse or tenement where Busby lives with lands etc belonging. Fox's farm with closes belonging called Foxes Closes in the possession of John Webb, a messuage, tenement or farmhouse on the parcel of land called the Park, four closes of pasture formerly one, pasture called the Spires in the occupation of Thomas Hollier, parcel of meadow called Battstake in the occupation of Thomas Hollier, Upper Spires in the occupation of Robert Capenhurst, 4a of meadow called the Cow Acres in the occupation of William Bell, 3 doles of meadow 1a 2r in Catholme Meadow in the occupation of William Palmer, parcel of meadow called the Roods Piece, 2 half-acres of land in Catholme Meadow called Wood Bird Lees late in the possession of Samuel Savage, two parcels of meadow called the Six Acres lying in Row Meadow in the possession of Ephraim Atkins, also all those leggs 2a lying in a meadow called the Small Meadow in the occupation of Thomas Thompson, close or pasture and all those 6 king bridge doles 6a in the occupation of Richard Hurst, meadow called Ten Acres adjoining Row Meadow 12a, meadow called Catholme Meadow 8a, Lime Croft Close, Mill Fitch, parcel of grass ground in open field Arlow Fields, close called James Hay, 4 leys of grass ground in Catholme Close, close or pasture called Corbetts Holme, 6 parcels of land in a common field called the Upper Field - Green Hill, Matches Furlong, upon the Oak, Oykers Dale, Riding and Breckhill - 6 other parcels of land in another common field called Walkers Field - Archers Croft, Crown Land, Pellets Croft, Street Flatt, Coose Acres, Crown Lands Pike - and 6 other parcels in Arlow Field - Knaves Knowle, Hatchetts Flatt, Spitch Pitts, Hatchers Flatt, Hearth Furlong, Three Odd Lands: to the use of Edward Busby for life, then to the use of Christopher Horton and John Hayes the younger for the life of Edward Busby to protect the contingent remainders; from his decease to the use of Theodosia Jevon for her jointure, and after her decease to the use of Horton and Hayes for 500 years in trust for the successive male and female issue of the marriage: to raise £1000 from the rents and profits to the use of children of the marriage other than the eldest son. 97 - Deed to lead to recoveries by which Samuel Salt of the Inner Temple, London, esq, at the direction of John Shadwell Horton of Hadley otherwise Monken Handley (Middlesex) esq, eldest son of John Horton, esq, dec'd, formerly of Bread Street Hill, London, sugar baker, has bargained and sold to John Harwood of the parish of St Bridget, gent, the manor of Barton-under-Needwood (as described in D3155/WH 95), and also messuages and lands in Clanfield (Oxfordshire) including a messuage or tenement, 2a of land called Fow Butts in the West Field, close called Broad Close, 32a of land in a close on Town Furlong, 32a of land in the same furlong, 1a of land in the Middle Field, 1 foreshuter acre of land in the Middle Furlong, 2a of land in the Middle Furlong, 32a of land in Long Land Furlong,. 1 varndell of land in Long Land Furlong, 1 rigid acre and ½a in Long Land Furlong, ½a in the same furlong, 1a of land in Middle Furlong and many other lands in open fields recited in great detail (5 skins): Harwood to become a perfect tenant of the manor and lands against whom two or more good and sufficient common recoveries may be suffered and executed. 98 - Found with Barton Manor deeds - only connection seems to Lord Goreinge Bound copy of lease by Charles I to George Lord Goringe, Baron of Hurst Perpoint, Sir Abraham Darves of London, kt, Sir John Jacob of London, kt, Sir Job Harby of London, kt, Nicholas Crispe of London, esq, and John Nulls of London, esq, of all customs, subsidies and impositions taken or known by the name or in lieu of customs, subsidies and impositions, and all manner of subsidies and impositions, and all manner of subsidies of tonnage, poundage etc on all manner of wares, goods and merchandise conveyed or imported or brought into England, Wales and Berwick, for 3 years. Dated 7 March 13 Charles I [1638] - 1638
