1 - Lease for possession by Joshua Marriott of Manchester, Lancashire, merchant (eldest son, heir at law and executor of Joshua Marriott deceased) and John Waterhouse of Hayfield, yeoman (eldest son, heir at law and devisee of John Waterhouse, deceased) to Benjamin Ward of Willington, merchant, of Waterhouse's mansion house, known as Great House or Newhouse, at Hayfield, formerly described as all that part of a capital messuage consisting of the dwelling hall or housestead with the chamber over the west side thereof, the great parlour with chamber over, the upper buttery with chamber over (on the north side of the dwelling hall), the nearer adjoining the house and a moiety of the orchard, with the Lower Barn with the shippen and stable (4 bays), Upper Barn and shippen (3 bays), the Winehouse and shed (used as a shippen) and the Calf House or Hen House, with closes known as Great Meadow, Further Meadow, Nearer Leyfield, Further Leyfield, Lower Alder Dole, Over Alder Dole, Middle Field, Brown Field, Great Field, Little Field, Watery Bank, Watery Hey, Cupper Croft and Marple Botham, a close called Further Wood and a cottage adjoining Upper Croft (total 26 acres of a large Cheshire measure of 8 yards to a rod or pole). 21 Feb - 1755

3-4 - Lease and release by John Waterhouse to Robert Want of Symonds Inn, London, gent, for barring estates tail, of the capital messuage at Hayfield, wherein Waterhouse now lives, with closes known as the Acre, Little Meadow and Coat Lane, that Want may be tenant to the precipe for suffering a recovery by John Lingard of Bowden Head, yeoman, to the use of Water-house in fee simple. 19 & 20 Nov - 1762

6-7 - Lease and release by John Waterhouse and Ann his wife, to Rev John Bradley, in consideration of £1,800, of the mansion house at Hayfield wherein Waterhouse lives, with closes called the Acre, Little Meadow and Coat Lane, and a pew in Hayfield Chapel, with covenant to levy a fine. 19 & 20 Apr - 1763
8 - Release to follow lease by Anthony Bradley of Kingswinford, Staffordshire, cider merchant (brother of Rev John Bradley of Hayfield, deceased and uncle of Sarah Bradley of Hayfield, deceased) to John Hague of Manchester, Lancashire, merchant reciting the will of John Bradley (1764) devising all his real estate and leasehold estate to his daughter Sarah Bradley and reciting that Sarah purchased the fee simple of two messuages and a close called Bottom Close; between Sarah and John Hague (1767) for the purchase by Hague for £3,500, of a newly erected messuage with closes known as Great Bottom and Marple Bottom, a cottage called Bottomhead House, a large messuage divided into 3 parts with closes called Schoolbank, Little Waterhey, Little Meadow, the Acre, Newfield, Great Waterhey and the two Boden Crafts, closes called Further Meadow, Elderdole Meadow, Further Leyfield (in 3 parts), Elderdole Field, further half of Middle Field, further half of Great Field and the barn, closes known as Great Meadow (in 2 parts), Nearer Leyfield (in 2 parts), nearer half of Middle Field, nearer half of Great Field, Littlefield and Broomfield with the barn, parcels of newly enclosed lands known as Coat Land and New Piece and a moiety of the herbage of the Pitts, all in Hayfield; and will of Sarah Bradley (1769) devising all her real estate to Anthony Bradley. 9-10 - Lease and release by John Worrall of Ravensledge, Glossop, yeoman and Jason Worrall (second son and heir apparent of John and brother and heir at law of Thomas Worrall, deceased who was grandson and devisee of Edward Drink-water of Pigsworth, deceased) to John Waterhouse of Hayfield, yeoman. Edward Drinkwater devised to Thomas Worrall a moiety of a messuage and lands, charged with the payment of £5 each to Thomas's brothers and sisters, £30 to James Drinkwater, natural son of Edward's daughter Ellen, an annuity of 50s to Thomas Drinkwater, his son, in trust for Ruth Dakin, his granddaughter, £20 to the said Ruth and an annuity of 50s to Thomas Drinkwater, in trust for his daughter Ann, wife of John Worrall; a mortgage by John Worrall to Henry Pennee (1758) for £150 of the devised premises for a term of 1000 years and a further mortgage for £50 (1760) in consideration of £200 paid to John Worrall and £95 paid to Jason Worrall. Waterhouse has agreed to pay off the mortgage and to pay the above legacies and annuities, of a messuage at Ollersett, known as Ravensledge, with closes known as the Croft at the House, Upper Meadow, Lower Meadow, the Hole in the Bottom of Lower Meadow, the Croft at the Coat, the Wood, the Croft in the Wood, Lay Field, the two crofts below Lay Field, Broom-field, the Park, Upper Intack, Lower Intack and Little Meadow below the Intack (total 17 acres by the computation of Cheshire) 8 & 9 Apr - 1763
11 - Assignment of mortgage by Henry Pennee of Nether Knutsford, Cheshire, apothecary, at the direction of John Waterhouse, to Ann Murray of Rochdale, Lancashire, spinster, in consideration of £200, of a moiety of premises at Ollersett (as D1143/1/9-10), with mortgage by Waterhouse to Ann of the other moiety of the premises for better securing repayment. 11 Apr - 1763

19 - Feoffment by Robert Kirke of Edale, yeoman, to Samuel Waterhouse of Hayfield, yeoman, in consideration of £95, of a messuage or farm at Smith Fold near Hayfield, known as Bennetts Tenement, with Stone Shee Close, the Meadow and a moiety of the fold called Smith Fold (4a by forest measure) with a pew for one person at the south end of Kirke's in the gallery of Hayfield Chapel subject to a rentcharge of 40s a year to the Chapel wardens of Hayfield for the poor of Great Hamlet, Phoside and Kinder, and of 20s a year to Robert Bradbury the younger, of Coldharbour for life payable under the will of John Bennett of Bakewell, ironmonger. - 10 Mar [1744]

24 - Release to follow lease by Samuel Waterhouse and Hannah his wife, to Robert Want of Dean St., London, gent for the better securing of the repayment of £346 to Chadwick and in consideration of a further £53 lent by Chadwick, of premises as above, so that Want may be tenant to the precipe for suffering a recovery by Thomas Froggatt of Manchester, gent., to the use of Chadwick for the residue of a term of 500 years and thereafter to the use of John Cresswell for a term of 600 years, upon trust to the use of Waterhouse. 27 Jan - 1768
25 - Assignment of mortgage by Thomas Chadwick, at the direction of Samuel Waterhouse, to William Heginbotham of Manchester, Lancashire, distiller in consideration of £434 paid to Chadwick and £93.17s paid to Waterhouse, of premises as D1143/1/23, with a messuage at Smith Fold known as Bennett's Tenement with closes known as Stone Shee Close and the Meadow and a moiety of Smith Fold (4 acres forest measure), a sitting in the gallery of Hayfield Church and two parcels of land called Brownlow Top - 2 Feb 1769
26-27 - Lease and release by Samuel Waterhouse to Samuel Daniel of Stockport, Cheshire, grocer, Daniel Tymm of Edale, yeoman, John Lingard of Bowden Head, yeoman, John Robinson of Yeardsley-cum-Whaley, yeoman and Robert Heginbotham of Great Hamlet, yeoman. The premises conveyed are in mortgage to William Heginbotham and Waterhouse is indebted in considerable sums of money to Daniel Tymm, Elizabeth Marriott, Joseph Heginbotham, Henry Hesketh, Thomas Dakin and others at Hayfield known as the King's Head or Queen's Head, a messuage at Phoside known as Upper Smith Fold with closes known as Will Meadow, Over Field and Hill Croft, a messuage known as Lower Smith Fold or Bennetts Tenement, at Phoside, with Stone Shee Close, the Meadow and a moiety of Smith Fold, two closes called Brownlow Top and the Cowman Half Acre at Phoside, upon trust to sell the premises for the best price, to pay the £528 owing to William Heginbotham, than to pay all debts due to Waterhouse's creditors and if there is any residue, to pay the same to Waterhouse, but if the money is not sufficient to pay the debts, to pay each creditor proportionally. Further bargain and sale by Waterhouse to Daniel and others for better securing payment of his debts, of a leasehold messuage at Hayfield, known as the George, for the remainder of the leasehold term, upon trust, if the above premises are insufficient, to sell the said messuage and apply the money to paying his debts. 17 & 18 Mar - 1769
28 - Release to follow lease by Samuel Daniel and others to John Hague of Manchester, Lancashire, merchant in consideration of £1100, of premise at Hayfield and Phoside (as above), with assignment of leasehold premises in Hayfield a plot of land to erect a dwelling house (11 yards x 6 ½ yards) lying between Gamaliel Hyde's house end and Ellen Didsbury's house end, in Hayfield, with liberty to pass through the Croft to the brook (Waterhouse having erected a valuable house on the plot) and a stable adjoining Waterhouse's house, for the residue of terms of 999 years and 31 years. 11 Jul - 1769
29 - Assignment by William Heginbotham, at the direction of Samuel Daniel and others and of Samuel Waterhouse, to John Allen of Park Hall within Hayfield, yeoman in consideration of £542 11s paid by John Hague, of the remainder of terms of 500 and 700 years, in trust for Hague to attend the inheritance. 13 Jul - 1769
30-31 - Lease and release by Samuel Waterhouse of Culcheth, Parish of Winwick, (Lancashire), gent., to Arthur Greenwollers of Cliffords Inn, London gent., for barring estates tail, of a messuage in the parish of Glossop known as Haslehurst, with all lands etc. occupied therewith, so that Greenwollers may be tenant to the precipe for suffering a recovery by James Clegg of Manchester, Lancashire merchant, to the use of Waterhouse in fee simple. 1 & 2 Nov - 1757
32 - Release by Ann Waterhouse of Chapel en le Frith, widow and devisee of Samuel Waterhouse of Risley, Lancashire, clerk, and Mary Higginbotham of Manchester, Lancashire spinster (heir at law of Samuel Waterhouse) Differences have arisen between Ann and Mary over the rents of part of the estates of Samuel and it has been agreed that Ann shall pay Mary £50 and Mary shall execute a bond to Ann to secure to Ann an annuity of £15 for life. A W releases a messuage at Phoside known as Haslehurst, with closes known as Great Field with Barley Croft, Stable Field, Shippon Field, Upper Field, Long Intack, Clough Round Intack, Spout Croft, Chindley Head Meadow, Chindley Head acre, Fishers Croft, Wicken Dole Meadow, Wicken Dole, the Roads, Barn Meadow, Farthe Meadow and Stubbs Two Intacks, for the life of Ann. 26 Aug - 1767

34 - Mortgage by John Waterhouse of Hayfield, yeoman (eldest son and residuary legatee of John Waterhouse deceased) to Joshua Marriott of Kinder, yeoman, with the consent of Thomas Marriott of Hayfield, yeoman (eldest son and heir at law of Thomas Marriott deceased. who was nephew and heir of Thomas Marriott, deceased,) Thomas Marriott the uncle leased to John Waterhouse the father (1710) a moiety of commons within Great Hamlet and Kinder in Bowden Middlecale regarding Heafield Moor (80 acres), Kinder Bank and Nabbrow (60 acres 9 perches) and William Clough (44 acres, 3 rods, 34 perches), being part of the common meered out for the King's Part, for 3000 years at £1 10 s 8 d a year with covenant that Waterhouse may not dispose any part of the commons without licence from Marriott. Mortgage for £50 paid by Thomas Marriott, of the above moiety of commons, for the remainder of the term, in trust for securing repayment to Thomas of £50 plus interest. 18 Jan - [mid 18th cent]

Further to a lease by Thomas Eyre of Rowtor, esq to Thomas Waterhouse in 1714/5 of a parcel of common in Great Hamlet, known as the Knarrs, being at Stonepit Yate at the top of the Knarrs, going to Double Dyke and thence to Abbots Chair (10 acres), for 999 years at 20s a year and assignment by Waterhouse and others to Thomas Boar of Tortop, clothier (1723) of a moiety of the said common, for the remainder of the term, at 10s a year, with assignment in consideration of £45,of the other moiety of the moiety of the Knarrs, for the remainder of the term, at 10s a year. 3 Nov - 1747
