HistoryThe original scheme was to build in the grounds of Clay Cross Hall a centre to provide for "more difficult and disturbed boys", partly with the intention of removing the unsatisfactory arrangement whereby the boys were accommodated outside the county. The first admission to the Secure Unit was in September 1977 when the home was called Greenacres, operating as a short-term Observation and Assessment Centre. There was also provision called the Greenacres School on site, active by 1981.

In March 1997 Greenacres was re-branded and named 125C Market Street. In 2007 provided accommodation for children needing immediate care due to behavioural difficulties, trouble with police or substance misuse. This building was demolished in 2008 and a new home was built in 2007-2008 on the site of Brunel's car park called Stephenson House, providing 7 short term and emergency beds for children and young people age 11 - 17 years.

On 22 September 2015 Cabinet Members approved closure, following an Ofsted inspection of 6 August 2014, compliance notice issued 12 August 2014 and a further inspection on 24 September 2015 with overall inadequate judgement. As at 2016, the home was open for outreach only.
