HistoryAppointed as Lieutenant on H.M.S. Plover under Captain Thomas Moore for voyage to the Arctic in 1848-1849. He was ordered to search, with W.H. Hooper, by boat for sign of Sir John Franklin's expedition from Point Barrow east to the mouth of the Mackenzie, eventually returning to England in 1851.
