Biography | Founded a textile mill at Lea, which he later sold to John Smedley, and at Cromford, sold to Richard Arkwright Industrialist, entrepreneur, and founder of Lea Mills. Born in Wirksworth and benefiting from family interests in lead Peter had links with the Cromford Canal development and a one time business partnership with Richard Arkwright. He was great uncle of Florence Nightingale. Although never married he had illegitimate children one of whom, Mary Browne married James Swettenham, gentleman of Wirksworth. Peter was buried in Ashover. |
