Description	By the Act of Association 7-8 Wm III c27 (1696) every office-holder was to subscribe to a "Solemn Association" binding themselves to assist each other in defence of the King and his Government against the late King James and his adherents. The Act purported to be in response to a Papist conspiracy for the assassination of the King.
