Description
These maps are described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:
On linen label, now detached 'Parish of Castleton Acts, Plans and other documents relating to the above parish'. 1729. Surveyor: [Samuel Hutchinson]. Scale: no scale shown. Size: 66 x 60 cm. Materials: sepia ink on parchment, has been folded then rolled. Centred on: SK154854. Notes: sketch map showing one plot at Losehill Top, Castleton commons, the River Nooe, Edale 'yate': another plot at [Wrolow]: another plot at Crookesden with slate pit: notes that some allotees allowed 'Peat moss' and allowed 'to get peat and free stone'. Hope 1729 Plan of lands. Surveyor: Luke Leigh and Edmund Hall. Scale: of 40 chains [1:6400]. Size: 63 x 70 cm., irregular. Materials: sepia ink on paper. Centred on: SK1784 Notes:compass rose, ENE at top. Shows Yorkshire Bridge, Ashop, Kings Hauge, Twichell, Fullwood Style and Reaps with buildings in perspective, strip fields alongside road, enclosures with acreage and proprietors. A Map or draft of all the wasts and commons belonging to the Towne and Liberties of Castleton as it is now Divided … as above. Surveyor:Luke Leigh and Edmund Hall. Scale: 20 chains to 3"[1:5300] .Size: 70 x 60 cm. Materials: ink on parchment, 2 sheets stitched together on old Indenture. Centred on: SK150829 Notes: south at top. Shows Castleton with some houses drawn in perspective, landholders named and acreages given, paths and tracks and roads marked with dashed lines. Location: DRO, Q/RP/1/276/1(iii)
