"The original indentures of these girls were made with Mr William Newton, formerly occupying the Cressbook Mills; and in March 1835 when he left and Messrs. McConnel Brothers became the proprietors they were transferred to the latter by the Commissioners for managing the affairs of the Military Asylum, Southampton."
