Administrative History | The company was established in 1894 with Arnold Lupton as Managing Director. It was given its Certificate of Incorporation as Shirebrook Colliery Limited a year later. Lupton left the company following a 17 week wage dispute in 1898. The company only ever owned the one colliery at Shirebrook, which had a sizeable workforce of well over a thousand workers at any one time in its pre-vesting history once it came into full-time production.
In 1947 Shirebrook Colliery was transferred to the control of the National Coal Board as a result of the nationalisation of the coal industry. |
