Administrative HistoryThese files represent the council's earliest response to the passing of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act in 1949. They largely contain correspondence with parish councils, relating to such public rights of way as were known to exist locally. Files may also contain correspondence with district councils, commercial companies and private individuals with an interest in local rights of way, and other documents such as extracts from sources such as maps, newspaper articles, minutes of meetings, etc. The compiled information files were then used in the creation of the definitive footpath maps (see D3479).
ArrangementIn the original filing system employed at the time the DCC/SV/2/4 was created, all files were allocated a series reference ROW (Rights of Way). This was followed by a number denoting the district. For instance, ROW 9 (Bolsover Urban District) is now DCC/SV/2/4/9. In the case of rural districts, the number denoting the district ran into a second number, applying to the parish or township. On conversion to an archival reference, the numbers have been separated by a forward slash. For instance, ROW 211 (Ashbourne Rural District: Carsington) is now DCC/SV/2/4/2/11.
