Administrative HistoryIn 1974, the Department for Health and Social Services approved a reception and observation centre (with 25 places) on the Sinfin estate and the site was scheduled to be brought into use May 1976. However, there were insufficient staff for young people in security in September 1977, and Leicestershire County Council contributed to staffing of secure unit in February 1978. A Secure Unit opened in May 1980. As of March 1997, the establishment offered 12 long-term placements, with seven blocks, including for staff, and one secure unit for four individuals. The responsibility for this and several other homes in Derby city was transferred to Derby City Council during local government re-organisation in 1997. The home closed in 2015, to be demolished in 2016 and replaced by The Willows on the same site.

Units: Wragley (8 bed), Redwood Unit (Open), Derwent Unit, Trent Unit (Secure, 2 bedrooms with own permanent staff), Senior Girls Unit (for 5 girls). In 1985 recorded as M/U, B/U and Girls Unit. Derwent Unit no longer used as of September 1995.

Clientele: Previously accommodated up to 24 young people aged 10-18. 16 Derbyshire children admitted in 1986, 18 in 1988. In 2015 had maximum of 5 beds for children and 2 for staff.
