Administrative HistoryThis area was formerly a part of the parish of Alfreton (see D654). It was created a separate parish in June 1851, and included Greenhill Lane, nearly all Somercotes and Pye Bridge, in addition to Riddings. A district chapelry had been established for Riddings in 1835 and the new church was built in 1845. Somercotes (see D2206), St Thomas was a chapel of ease to Riddings, built in 1852. There were mission rooms at Greenhill Lane and Pye Bridge.
