Administrative History | This was a statutory committee set up under the 1948 National Assistance Act, which dissolved the Public Assistance Committee and gave its power over residential accommodation for the aged and infirm to the new committee. Extra powers were also given in respect of specialised provision for the handicapped, and the registration and inspection of disabled and old people's homes run by voluntary organisations or private individuals. Under the 1970 Social Services Act these functions passed to the New Social Services committee (see 1/71/1). For related papers, see D919/C/1/82. |
