Administrative HistoryThe 1946 National Health Service Act required county and county borough councils to set up statutory health committees to deal with the personal health function. The Act was intended to create a clearer split between personal and environmental health services: committee structure in Derbyshire was reorganised in 1948, with the setting up of the Childrens and Welfare committees. Personal health services which could be provided under the Act were health centres and health visiting, home and day nurseries, home helps, care and after-care, vaccination and immunisation, community care of the mentally ill and ambulance services. Social Services functions were transferred to the new Social Services committee in 1970 (see D919/C/1/71/1).
