Description | The 1892 Smallholdings Act empowered county councils to acquire land for leasing in this way and similar functions were later assumed in respect of the 1887 Allotments Act. The committee became a statutory one following the passing of the 1908 Smallholding and Allotments Act. From December 1920, under the provisions of the 1919 Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Act, the committee became a sub-committee of the new Agriculture committee (see 1/32/1-2) but this was dissolved by the 1947 Agriculture Act. From 1947, the committee was known as Smallholdings and Agricultural Purposes. |
