Description
It was named after Reverend John Philip Gell in 1842 by Sir John Franklin (later his father-in-law); copies of map of location enclosed; it had previously been called Mount Cheynes prior to 1842; the name Mount Gell was officially assigned by the Nomenclature Board in 1959.
