DescriptionReports extent of cholera amongst recruits.  Invites Franklin to visit Chatham and mentions other distinguished visitors.  Describes a boat compass invented by Captain Phillips.  Has informed the author of the rejection of her novel.  Reports on various aspects of progress toward publication of Parry's Appendix and his own and Franklin's works.  Reports his thoughts about timing of an application to be superseded before expedition departure.  Asks about Back's expected return and about appointment of a successor to Bushnan. Asks to be informed when either of Hudson's Bay Company ships arrive.  Asks Franklin to write to Garry about plant, anmal and bird specimens which they may be carrying.
