DescriptionSending a remnant of chintz by her cousin, matches the hangings on one of Eleanor’s beds; not hopeful of seeing Baby, but not ruling it out, and should be very glad to see Eleanor or Baby; has heard from C. Cracroft about Lady Franklin being seriously ill and having received “cupping” treatment; hopes that she is being kept calm; begs Eleanor to soothe Lady Franklin as she is Lady Franklin’s “nearest friend”, thinks that Lady Franklin will appreciate Eleanor’s“filial feelings” and will also be happy to think about Baby, who is her husband’s grandchild; sorry to hear about Lady Simpkinson and to hear also that Sir R. S. is ill; John is to be told that Mr Newton died this morning, had a “most peaceful and happy” death, and had lived as a “consistent Christian”; thanks for invitation to Great Exhibition, had not thought about going but “it will be rather stupid never to see it”; “Carry” must see it, and E. and H. can see it when they go through London; Eleanor should be able to let her house “easily”; Elizabeth would not like to let hers to foreigners, especially to “Tedeschi” [Germans]; good news from Ventnor, [daughter] Elizabeth’s cough is getting better; hopes that Eleanor’s new nurse will be a comfort to her.
