DescriptionDiscrete text from each writer, both started 9 Feb. From Eleanor Frances Kay: fearful that her letters are a poor response to those received.  Gives news of Ellen's convalescence and of the health of other family members in the context of warm winter weather.  Describes time spent in Southamption in the company of her sister Mary Anne: mentions children Eddy, Mary Anne and Franklin.   Describes Kendall's work, with details of ships and their routes.  Commends "Introduction to the Literature of Modern Europe in 15th, 16th & 17th Centuries" by Hallam.  At William's request they are making some drawIngs: pleased that he has obtained employment. Refers to the expedition to Macquarie Harbour by John and Lady Franklin.  
From Sarah Frances Kay: refers to an account of the Macquarie Harbour voyage.  Praises William, espcially his assistance with drawing.  Expects that this letter will be taken by Dr Nixon, Bishop of Tasmania: have recently met him and Archdeacon Marriot.  Postscript 17-18 Feb: has learned from Mrs Simpkinson that her uncle is to be relieved of his post.  Speculates at what Eleanor might feel at the prospect of returning to England.  Will be pleased to see her, but expresses regret at what this will mean for others.  Appreciates their correspondence sustained over six years.  Reports news that the Antarctic expedition is to return:  Lt Murdough has returned invalided, and reports success of the expedition.
