Title	Letter from Emily Sellwood to her aunt Hannah Booth, reporting on letter received from Sophy Cracroft just after arrival of the Franklin party in Tasmania

Description	She recounts the news she has received in a letter from Sophy Cracroft and asks that she tell Aunt Wright. The party had just returned from a month's excursion. From Launceston about 8000 people came out about eleven miles to meet her uncle and he was welcomed in every place, with balls, dinners, suppers, luncheons and breakfasts. There were also illuminations and nothing like the enthusiasm occasioned by her brother’s arrival has been known in Van Diemen’s Land. On one occasion they sailed in a yacht for Flinders Island where the few remaining Aborigines are. They spent three days and nights attempting to reach the island but the wind direction prevented them landing. She says that Tom is written for but it is impractical for his mother and sisters to accompany him, as everything is so dear and their income would not be enough as well as the inexpressible trouble of servants and the intense heat which would make it an undesirable residence for them. Sophy speaks of the country as very beautiful and they have seen three Kangaroos. Some of the new roads are magnificent and some are execrable and lead up tremendous hills. She comments on the beauty of bonfires with different kinds of wood which produce brilliant flames. Mary seems very well and her sister lives close to her.
