My dear Sister
Many thanks to you and Mrs Kay for your most consoling letter. I shall now embark in the calmest state of mind and full of hope that through the blessing of God my dearest wife may speedily recover.
I hope you will remain with her as long as you conveniently can, and I pray have Tom or any of your friends to see you, particularly Mr Peacock and our nephews.
I have not time to write in to Lincolnshire. Will you say we all go off in high glee.
Tell Mrs Kay with my kind love I will write to her by the next opportunity, and that Dr and Mrs Hooker who have come here to see us off are going to Town and they will call to tell you all about our departure, and to see my little darling. He is Professor of Botany at Glasgow. Kiss my little darling Eleanor for me.
Ever yours most faithfully
John Franklin
Love to Mr Kay & James and all the family
