Custodial History | The plan was put up for auction with Bamfords in Rowsley following the death of the wife of a former member of the Wirksworth Barmote Court, in whose house it had been hanging. In separate lots, the following items of the same provenance were also sold;- clay pips smoked during Barmote Court meetings, most featuring handwritten descriptions of when and where the meet took place, with a notice regarding the mines called Lower and Upper Chance, Claytons & Flints being put into proper workmanship within three weeks, issued by John Mort, Barmaster 1 Sep 1960;- small bag of ephemera including a lead coin, smelted from lead ore supplied by Derbyshire Stone Limited to mark the centenary of the Derbyshire Mining Customs and Mineral Courts Act 1852, and publications believed to already be held in the Local Studies collection at Derbyshire Record Office.
This item was purchased at auction on 2 June 2018 with financial assistance from lead mining historian Steve Thompson and the Friends of the National Libraries. It was accessioned in July 2018. |
