Title
Public/environmental art project file: Architecture Week 2002, Shirebrook
Date
2000-2002
Description
7Architecture Week was a national initiative of the Royal Institute of British Architects which started in 1997. This file records a project to provide improvements in the physical infrastructure at Shirebrook Market Place, with support from the District of Bolsover, Groundwork Creswell, Arts Council England, Derbyshire County Council, North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire Coalfield Alliance, and East Midlands Arts. Participants included pupils and staff from Shirebrook Model Village School, working with artists Val Carman and Catherine Hunter, and architect Helen Walker. Video and creative writing were used as methods for carrying out investigations into what local people wanted to see done with the market place.
Includes a letter from Shirebrook Community Partnership describing an outline plan for the project, other correspondence, funding application, full report on the project, service contracts, minutes of planning meetings and a specially branded plastic carrier bag. Also included are postcards completed by local people in answer to the question "how would you change your market place?"
