Title
Public/environmental art project file: Whaley Thorns village renewal
Date
1997-2000
Description
This project was part of the People And Places programme of Junction Arts. A housing renovation component of the project provided one year's paid employment to 6 unemployed 18-24 year olds, who also received training towards a qualification. Junction Arts commissioned a ten-week programme of sessions for what would become known as the EnvriOarts Youth Arts Group, with artists including Anna Dixon. This group's work then led to the installation of mosaics in the village.
The files include:
Outline proposals to Single Regeneration Budget Working Group, 12 May 1996, with Youth Arts Strategy and Development Programme for 1996-1999; draft proposals including suggestions for mosaic artwork; news cutting from Direct Action News summer 1999 and "Renewing Whaley Thorns" newsletters 1997 and 1998; notice of a public meeting regarding Whaley Thorns Neighbourhood Renewal Assessment, Nov 1997 and notice of the Annual General Meeting of Whaley Thorns Community Association, 17 Jun 1999; list of problems and possible solutions arranged in four headings: Housing, Environment, Economy, Community; artists' contracts and Anna Dixon's curriculum vitae; copies of funding applications (SRB and Arts 4 Everyone); photographs of artworks being installed.
