TitlePublic/environmental art project file: Bolsover Illuminations

DescriptionThis project was sponsored by Old Bolsover Town Council in conjunction with Bolsover in Bloom, an environmental improvement group set up "to make Bolsover a more attractive place to live, work and visit". The idea was to create decorative winter illuminations for Bolsover Town, designed by a professional artist working with local residents. The manufacturer of the lights was LITE, a company specialising in the design of decorative public lighting systems. The related Steering Group was formed out of the Bolsover Victorian/Winter Festival group

These folders include:

Phase I:
Project proposal, progress report, project evaluations;
correspondence and papers relating to the appointment of artist Ray Smith including CV and artist brief;
application forms to the Awards for All scheme (lottery grants for local groups), the Grants for the Arts scheme (Arts Council England), the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund (Community Chest) and the North Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire Sub-regional Strategic Partnership;
financial correspondence and papers, plan and list of lighting columns, inspection report on lighting columns;
papers relating to other aspects of the project such as workshops for young people being run by Ray Smith

Phase II:
Further grant application forms including letter of support from Bolsover Business Forum;
correspondence and papers relating to the re-appointment of artist Ray Smith including contract;
Meden Valley Centres newsletter Dec 2004 with short article about the second year of Bolsover Illuminations, designed by Ray Smith with students from Bolsover Secondary School; photographs of design workshop;
project outline, progress report by Richard Janes 14 Jun 2004, activity report for submission to Arts Council England, correspondence about the manufacture of the lighting, inspection report by Standard Industries Ltd of Derby;
papers relating to planning permission including application form; detailed printed designs for Bolsover Illuminations phase II
