| Description | Bolsover Lantern Parade has been one of the most enduring of Junction Arts' recurring events. Over the years there have been some variations in the name and different arrangements for funding and timing, but the basic elements have remained the same: a night-time parade through the town, with people carrying lanterns which they have made under the direction of Junction Arts. Photographs in this series show the lanterns being created, the creative range of the lanterns constructed each year, the people involved, and other organised activities taking place alongside the parade, especially the Bolsover Victorian Festival. They are typically colour 6 x 4 inch prints, marked on the reverse as being in the copyright of Junction Arts.
This series of photographs has been arranged by year and the particular year forms the final component in the reference number, so there are no files associated with references D7913/3/1/1-1993. This structure reflects the original arrangement of the photographs, which on transfer to Derbyshire Record Office were contained in envelopes filled with plastic pockets, glued to sheets of plain paper. Each envelope was associated with one year's parade, although if the contents have been found to go beyond that date, this is indicated in the Date field. The original envelopes of photographs were appraised by Junction Arts staff and volunteers in 2016, and similar or uninformative images were removed so as to reduce the bulk of the total. They were also removed from the paper backing so as to extend the life of the prints. |
