TitleTitle Deeds
Date[c1215]-1912
DescriptionDeeds of both the Aston Hall estate and the Weston manor estate purchased by Robert Holden in 1648 range from the 13th to the 17th centuries. Those for Weston manor include a settlement in 1310 of disputes between Henry de Lacy Earl of Lincoln and the Abbey of St. Werburgh at Chester, to which the manor belonged, relating to the ferry over the River Trent between Derbyshire and Leicestershire. The title deeds of the Holdens' many later purchases, nearly all in Aston, provide a fairly comprehensive record of land ownership there in the 18th and 19th centuries, with the deeds for some of their properties going back to the 17th century and for a very few to the 16th century. There is comparatively little settlement material.
