DescriptionThis map is described in the Derbyshire Record Society's "A Catalogue of Local Maps of Derbyshire c.1528–1800" (compiled by Harold Nichols, revised by Mary Wiltshire assisted by Susan Woore, published 2012). The description reads as follows:

A plan of Part of Hubbadale Mine. By Jam. Dawson. 1766. Surveyor:James dawson. Scale: of 100 yards [l:530]: with extensive decoration including drawings of miner and surveyor. Size: 52 x 63 cm. Materials: coloured ink on paper. Centred on: SK142695 Notes: 8 points compass rose, top of sheet west. Mining plan drawn as a section with moorland scenery on the surface showing part of Hubbadale vein from Whale Sough Forefield Shaft to Hubbadale Forefield shaft: also normal plan of the vein, cross veins and sough: distinctive drawings of horse-gin and hand stowe with miner: cartouche in extravagent rococo design, black and white, including drawing of miner.
