Administrative HistoryThe British and Foreign Bible Society was formed in 1803, and was launched on 7 March 1804, in the London Tavern, Bishopsgate, in the presence of around 300 people.

The Royal Charter governing the Bible Society's work was originally granted by King George VI on 27th November 1948.
