Administrative HistoryChinley with Buxworth became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1915. Prior to that it was a district of Glossop. The parish incorporates the churches of St James at Buxworth and St Mary's at Chinley. The parish of Chinley, St Mary's was originally extra-parochial hamlet, and then part of the chapelry (later parish) of Hayfield. St Mary's church room was built 1908. It became part of the new parish of Chinley with Buxworth in 1915. St. James' Church at Buxworth was built in 1874. The parish of Chinley with Buxworth comprises the hamlets of Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside.
