Administrative History
The Infectious Disease (Notification) Act 1889 allowed urban and rural sanitary districts to adopt powers to require notification of particular infectious diseases. This legislation was extended ten years later to force all sanitary authorities to adopt these powers, and compulsory notification of infectous disease was later incorporated into the Public Health Act of 1936.
