DescriptionThe first branches of the Women's League for the Spread of Co-operation were founded in 1883. The organisation changed its name to the Women's Co-operative Guild the following year. Nationally, the Guild aimed to educate women "in order that they can play a full part in the control of the Co-operative Movement" and to encourage women to "play a greater part in community, national and international affairs".
