Administrative HistoryJohn Thorp (1841-1915) was in business as a blacksmith in Harrington Street, Derby by the time of his marriage in 1877. He was still in Harrington Street in 1901 but by 1911 had moved to Goodale Street. In 1925 a new company J. Thorp and Son, Limited of 156, Harrington-street. Derby, took over the existing business of J Thorp and Son, general engineers, blacksmiths, etc., carried on at Harrington-street: the directors were John Thorp's son Thomas Aaron Thorp (1879-1953) and his son Robert Aaron Thorp (1901-1960). A firm of the same name appears to have ceased trading in 1987, when the sale was advertised of office, engineering and welding equipmment and steel stock at the firm's premises in Raynesway, Derby.
