Administrative HistoryThe foundation stone for this church was laid in 1904, and was finished within the year. It was officially opened on 12 October by Miss E Stubbins, and became head of the Whittington Moor circuit. In 1907 the Methodist Free Church, the Bible Christians and the Methodist New Connexion joined to become the United Methodist Church. In the course of this union, St John's Road church was transferred from the Whittington Moor circuit to the Marsden Street circuit.

In 1932 Methodist Union was implemented, and the St John's Road Church transferred from the Marsden Street circuit to the present Chesterfield, Saltergate, circuit.
