Administrative HistoryThe village of Allenton is a compact village founded in the 19th century by Mr. Isaac Allen. The church itself was built in stone and was opened in December 1939, but at this point Allenton was not a parish but a conventional district. Prior to that date there had been a mission room at the school which was used on sundays. Allenton became a parish in 1948 and Shelton Lock, formerly in the Parish of Chellaston, was added to the parish about 1950.
