Administrative HistoryThe business was established by Mr Abraham Greaves at Ironville in 1836, who for some years had chemists shops in Clay Cross, Pilsley and Tibshelf. In 1864, he bought Claughton's, an extensive business in Chesterfield of wholesale druggists and oil & paint merchants, which was carried on by Greaves. When Mr Greaves purchased Claughton's, he made Chesterfield his headquarters and went to live at Rye Hill House on Brampton Moor (later occupied by his son Abraham Walter Greaves). In about 1870, he took over the dispensing chemist's business of Mr Daniel in Chesterfield Market Place, and occupied this premises. In 1872, he took his son Abraham Walter Greaves into partnership. Abraham Greaves died in 1898, and in 1900 Abraham Walter Greaves took his son Sydney Chater Greaves into partnership.
