| Administrative History | Derby Lancastrian (British) School was founded in 1812 for boys only, with education following the plan of Mr Joseph Lancaster. Supporters of the school took part of a mill in Full Street on a short lease, and on its expiry the Committee built a new school in Orchard Street, Derby. By 1844 a girls' school was added using a former Roman Catholic Chapel. Variously known as Derby British and Orchard Street School, it was succeeded by Lancaster Secondary Modern School in 1947. Lancaster School closed in July 1959. |
