Administrative History | Stretton House was in the 1960s a hostel providing accommodation, but in the 1980s it developed into a special unit for 'emotionally disturbed and deprived boys' aged 9 to 16 with educational, personal and social problems and was administered by the Education Department of Derbyshire County Council. Housed in mid-Victorian buildings, formerly called Timberfield House, it occupied a site of about 26 acres a mile from the centre of Clay Cross. Stretton House catered for both day and residential pupils. About 40 boarders were accommodated in the 1980s. The unit closed in 1997. |
