Title | Grotesque Borders for Rooms & Halls : No 22 |
Date | 29 Oct 1800 |
Description | Three strips, arranged in rows. Row 1. 'A Lilliputian Exhibition' Lilliputian characters, including a fashionable young man, a pair of stout cits and a clergyman viewing paintings and miniatures. There is mention made of the copies of fine art available at Ackermann's.
Row 2. A man appointed Master of Ceremonies at a rout speaks to another man. A Lilliputian card party of four people, with a servant. A mouse being carried in a sedan chair by two cats.
Row 3. A man misreading a sign outside a silk-stocking shop. A scene from 'Pizarro', which was adapted by Sheridan from Kotzebue's The Spaniards of Peru, and first produced in 1799. It was very successful, particularly because of Rolla's patriotic speech, which was taken to be anti-Napoleon. Three Irishmen discussing a morning walk. Available on CD 161. |
