TitleKing Joe Drumm'd out of Spain : to the tune of the Rogues March!

DescriptionJoseph Bonaparte, a rope round his neck, is followed by two men playing drums and two playing pipes. Bonaparte has his hands clasped and is saying:
"O Nap - Nap - you have been the ruin of me!"
They are watched by a smiling John Bull-like character in naval dress, who says:
"That's right my Hearties drum away - Don't spare him - d___ me but I wish we had him along side of Bow Street Office, under tow of Master Townshend - I think it would go hard with him, at the Old Bailey!!" Available on CD 158.

Further InformationThe news from Bayonne in 1808 that Joseph had been accepted as king led to uprisings. On the 23 July the Spanish defeated the French at Bailén and Joseph left Madrid for Burgos, plundering the palaces as he left.
Joseph wrote to Napoleon on 9 Aug 1808:
"I am convinced that the new arrangements will find in this country more resistance than Your Majesty imagines, and that in the outcome they will bring happiness to no-one"
