Further Information
This drawing refers to the Fox - North coalition of 1783. There was great surprise at Charles James Fox (1749-1806) taking up with Lord North (1732-1792) in the 1783 coalition, after Fox's constant criticism of North's handling of the American War. Although Fox had been hostile to North, he was even less inclined to enter into a coalition with Shelburne who, although as a Whig reformer was politically closer to Fox, had been acting as a wrecker on behalf of George III.
