DescriptionA street scene in a country town. Groups of people stroll and ride horses. In the background is a building with a sign advertising: 'Hot Rolls, Coffe, Tea &c on the most reasonable te[rms]'.
On the right is an academy with the sign: 'Young Leddies Finisht in thare Iddication'.
On the pavement in front of the buildings are people promenading, children playing on a hobby-horse, a woman selling curds and whey, and a newsboy.
On the road, between the pavement and the buildings, a family ride in a carriage, a man strolls on a horse and another clings to his runaway horse.

On the verso is written:
'GM Woodward sketches when a child. These are evident proofs of his natural Genius _ he used to draw before he could speak plain _ (W.W.)'
The handwriting is that of the artist's father, William Woodward. Available on CD 157.
